Brixton Advice Centre is a forward-looking and dynamic independent advice centre based in London. Our core specialist services are in Housing, Benefits and Debt advice. In addition, we provide extensive pro bono legal services through our award-winning Online Legal Clinic, staffed by solicitors and barristers on areas of law including Crime, Family, Employment and general litigation matters. We also provide a range of other generalist, outreach and project services

We hold Lexcel, the Law Society’s Standard for excellence in practice management and client care

What we are looking for

We are seeking a full-time Benefits Adviser/Caseworker. You will be based at our main site on Railton Road, Brixton, though government guidance regarding the coronavirus pandemic that may be in effect, and our ongoing risk assessments, is likely to require at least some element of remote working

You will also play an exciting role in contributing to and supervising benefits work at our Advice Clinic, an online service we are developing that will mirror our Online Legal Clinic, which recently won Best Contribution by a Pro Bono Clinic at the Pro Bono National Awards 2020 and which was also shortlisted in the Best New Pro Bono Activity category

What you can expect

You will join a small, friendly and supportive team of staff and volunteers dedicated to providing high-quality advice services to people who live or work in Lambeth, London. You will be supported through regular supervision and training. You will receive remuneration to £31,000 per year dependent on experience and performance. The post attracts an occupational pension and 25 days annual leave in addition to Bank and Public Holidays

You are a driven and enthusiastic benefits adviser with experience of a broad range of advice strategies that can be used to get the best results for clients. You can get your head down and get on with it and you are open to incorporating technology into your working practices to make the best of what you do and better resolve the difficulties our clients face
