Housing Solicitor vacancy

Full or part-time position. Salary up to £40,000 per year 

Brixton Advice Centre is a dynamic independent advice centre in London. We provide publicly funded legal aid services in Housing and we also provide advice services in Welfare Benefits and Debt, along with a range of other generalist and outreach service provision

What we are looking for

We seek a Housing Solicitor to work within our experienced and dedicated Housing Team. We will consider full-time or part-time applicants (minimum 17.5 hours per week)

What you can expect

You will join a small, friendly and supportive team of staff and volunteers dedicated to providing high quality legal services to the local community. You will start at £36,000 per year (pro rata based on 35 hours per week FTE) rising to £40,000, dependant on experience and your performance during a successful probationary period. The post also attracts 25 days annual leave per year in addition to Bank Holidays and pension scheme

About you

You are a driven and effective Housing solicitor with at least 2-years PQE. You have a solid, provable track record in undertaking legal aid certificated work under a Housing legal aid contract and of meeting the relevant legal aid contract requirements and Key Performance Indicators. Although we employ a full-time Billing Officer, you are familiar with the legal aid billing process and confident in its operation. You have experience of recovering inter partes costs and meeting financial targets in relation to your work

You will not be expected to act as a Category Supervisor so do not need to meet the Category Supervisor requirements within the Standard Civil Contract. However, you are a team player and will be expected to share the decision-making responsibilities of the team to ensure it is as effective and efficient as it can be

Experience of running a busy caseload is essential, as is contemporaneous time recording. You will be a valued member of the team and play an active role in the leadership and future strategy of the Centre
